Emergency Medical Services Program

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training courses meet both the initial training and Workforce Development and 职业准备 (WDCR) requirements for medical responders within 大学 of The Albemarle’s (COA) service area.

The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services works with the college to develop classes for individuals interested in joining a first responder department, rescue squad and/or EMS agency. The classes we offer include Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and 护理人员.

WDCR is provided by COA through each of the county’s EMS agencies. Please contact the appropriate agency for class dates and times.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

EMRs assess and provide basic emergency medical care to patients at the scene of a medical emergency.  EMRs must work in conjunction with higher level EMS providers while transporting patients to medical facilities. The EMR course is 96 hours.  The course consists of; lecture, lab and 在线课程.

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

EMTs assess and provide emergency medical  care to patients at the scene of a medical emergency and during transport to medical facilities.
The EMT course is 240 hours. The course consists of; lectures, 实验室, 在线课程 and 48 hours of EMS Field time.

 

Advance Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Advanced EMTs assess and provide advanced emergency medical care (airway management, 静脉注射访问, medication administration) to patients at the scene of a medical emergency and during transport to medical facilities.
The EMT course is approximately 300 hours. The course consists of; lectures, 实验室, 在线课程 and 48 hour of Hospital Clinical time and 48 hours of EMS Field time.

护理人员s are highly skilled medical professionals trained to deliver immediate advanced emergency medical care to patients at the scene of a medical emergency and during transport to medical facilities. In NC, 护理人员s are the highest trained emergency medical provider.
The 护理人员 course is approximately 1124 hours.  The course consists of; lectures, 实验室, 在线课程, Hospital Clinical time and EMS Field time.

Accreditation Status

COA’s Emergency Medical Services – 护理人员 program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education 项目 (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational 项目 for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
